Australia’s Neil Robertson sees off David Gilbert in Round 2 of 2012 World Snooker Championship
Former World Snooker Championship winner from Australia, Neil Robertson displayed some brilliant skills in the second round match of the 2012 World Snooker Championship against the Englishman David Gilbert. The Australian potter made some outstanding snooker
shots to oust the Englishman by the score line of 13-9 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
The Aussie was under pressure in the final session of the game because Gilbert nudged him down. However, the 2010 World Snooker Champion bounced back into the game and snatched back his lead until the end. Gilbert, on the other hand, was not able to perform
according to the standards and slipped down by four frames.
At the end of the first two sessions on Day 1 of the game, Robertson finished on top of the Englishman. Gilbert missed a couple of simple shots to let Robertson come at the table and failed to improvise according to the situation.
The third session began with Robertson’s impressive shots and built a couple of tremendous breaks of 44 and 43 to clinch the match. Robertson felt satisfied with his performance in the match and is hoping for a better run in the next stage. He will be looking
to build up some confidence in his game-play as he further progresses in the event.
While speaking to World Snooker, Robertson said, “I take my hat off to David because he hung in there and gave it everything. He played to top 16 standard and never looked under pressure. Up until 10-5 I played as well I have ever done here, but after that
I was not clinical enough. If I have a session like that against Ronnie or Mark Williams it could cost me.”
Gilbert, on the other hand, added, “It was such a buzz to play here and it makes me determined to get out of the cubicles and get to more venues.”
Robertson has now successfully made his way into the quarter-final stage of the event where he will face either Mark Williams or Ronnie O’Sullivan. It will be interesting to see how Robertson manages to carry his winning momentum to the next round of the
exciting tournament.
