The Queenslander was outstanding with both bat and ball in the marquee tournament. It was his sensational all-round performance that guided the mighty Aussies to the tournament semi-finals, before losing to the eventual champions, West
Indies.
Watson topped tournament’s run-scoring charts compiling a tally of 249 runs from six innings, at an average of 49.80. The tally also included three half centuries.
Watson’s right-arm medium pace earned him 11 wickets at an impressive average of 16.00 and an economy rate of 7.33. He was the second highest wicket-taker of the tournament, just behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BAW-Mendis-c1127 of Sri Lanka, who picked up 15 wickets
at 9.80, and an economy rate of 6.12 an over.
Another unique achievement for the veteran all-rounder in the T20 showpiece was clinching four consecutive Man of the Match awards, in Australia’s first four games of the tournament.
Watson, 31, was the unanimous choice of the selection panel, comprising ICC general manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjay-Vijay-Manjrekar-c88628 and Sri Lanka cricket
journalist Rex Clementine.
The Queenslander said that being recognised for the accomplishments is always a nice feeling, and hoped to continue with his good form this Australian summer.
"Although we didn't quite reach our team goal of winning this tournament, on a personal note it's an honour to be named as the Player of the Tournament," said Watson at the post-match presentation ceremony after the Sri Lanka-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760
World T20 final, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on Sunday night.
"To be recognised for your achievements is always a nice feeling, but I know it would have felt a lot better if we had also been able to lift the trophy."
"As an all-rounder you always strive to have the perfect performance with bat and ball in one game, so to be able to do this in a few matches was extremely satisfying," he added further.
