Shaun Marsh eying a permanent spot in the Test side – Cricket News Update
Australia’s promising middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh is looking forward to cementing his spot in the Test side after making an impressive debut against Sri Lanka in the longest version of the game this year.
Marsh scored a century on debut and followed with a solid half-century, which forced the selectors to pick him for the team’s upcoming tout of South Africa.
According to the 28-year-old player, “You always want to play Test cricket for Australia and I guess to get that opportunity and to do well, I’ve got a great opportunity now to really cement myself in the Test team. I’m looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead in South Africa.”
Praising the Proteas bowling, Marsh stated, “They’ve got some fantastic bowlers so it’s really going to test myself and I’m looking forward to that. I guess coming home was a good way to have a good think about what happened over there (in Sri Lanka) and get it out of my body and system and prepare myself for South Africa.”
Australia will go head to head against South Africa in two Twenty20s, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a couple of Test matches.
The series will kick off with the shortest version of the game from Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Newlands, Cape Town.
The Kangaroos will be lead by Cameron White in the Twenty20 matches before Michael Clarke takes charge of the team in the longer formats.
White will be looking forward to do well both as a player and captain of the side. He failed to win any game against Sri Lanka in a recently played series. The conditions in Asia were difficult for the players, but they will like the pace and bounce of the South African wickets.
On the other hand, the hosts will be without their regular Twenty20 and ODI skipper AB de Villiers, who fractured his finger during a training session with his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The team will now be led by stylish top-order batsman Hashim Amla, who was appointed as the deputy to de Villiers after the team failed to reach the Semi-Finals of the ICC World Cup 2011.
