Australia’s Tom Slingsby claims Laser title: 2012 London Olympic Games – Sailing Update
Final day of the Laser sailing competitions on the Weymouth and Portland waters were outstanding as the fleet enjoyed impressive and supportive sailing conditions.
The breeze on the racing area was gusting around on 16 knots which made the fleet had complete racing schedule on the final day of the 2012 London Olympic Games sailing proceedings.
With the help of superb sailing display on the race course, Australian Laser sailor, Tom Slingsby was able to claim the leading podium place from the start of the regatta. He started off with a classy second finish in the first race of the day followed by
a bullet and another second podium place.
The second day was comparatively a lower finish for the Australian sailor as he claimed podium finishes of sixth and ninth followed by a 14th, which was discarded from the final scores. After that the Aussie sailor cruised back into the game with
impressive three bullet finishes which kept him on top of the fleet.
On the final day, the experienced Slingsby grabbed a lower 18th finish which did not really affect his overall scores and he was able to claim the Olympic Gold medal.
Pavlos Kontides was also impressive on the Weymouth and Portland waters and secured second place overall with 59 points to clinch silver medal.
