Australia’s Tom Slingsby satisfied with his performance in 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Currently the leading podium of the Laser class in the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta is occupied by the Australian sailor, Tom Burton who has compiled 10 points after sailing in six races. The Aussie sailor had a slow start of the regatta but fired
back later in the proceedings to secure the leading position.
Another Australian and former Laser World Championship winner, Tom Slingsby is trailing behind Burton on the fourth podium. Slingsby is definitely one of the top sailors who can claim this title but right now he is struggling hard on fourth podium with 19
points.
Slingsby began his regatta proceedings with a fourth finish in the first race of the event. However, a bullet in the second brought him back into the competition and he started aiming to hit the leading position. Unfortunately, he tumbled down in the standings
as he grabbed some lower finishes in the next three races.
A third, fifth and sixth finish dropped him down on the fourth podium place. The sixth race was not different either as he crossed the finish line on seventh podium place which was a threatening situation. But the sixth race was discarded from the overall
scores and Slingsby maintained his current position. Despite his slow run, Slingsby is satisfied with his form.
Speaking to the local media, he said, “It was an ok day for me with plenty of speed, but plenty of errors too. I think I made more and more errors as the day went on. I was too tired and not thinking straight. A lot more wind and rain today as well as big
waves, so yes it was tough conditions.”
He added, “We were doing three lap races, so it was really hard on the body as well as it being freezing cold and raining meant it wasn’t great.”
