Australia's Tour to India: Cheteshwar Pujara in, Yuvraj Singh out
Indian cricket never seizes to amaze. As the board of selectors announced the national squad for the upcoming series against Australia, they dropped a bombshell when they left out prolific middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh and opted for an unknown Cheteshwar
Pujara in his place.
Players making a comeback into the Indian ODI squad also include Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan.
Australia will be visiting India early next month to participate in a 2 match Test series. The first match of the series will be played at Mohali from the 1st of October to the 5th while the second will be hosted in Bengaluru, starting
from the 9th of October.
Yuvraj Singh finds himself out of favour from the selectors’ radar after his missed out on the last two tests on India’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 with an injury and his spot in the side will be taken up by Cheteshwar Pujara.
Mercurial fast bowler Sreesanth also makes a comeback after an absence of almost two years as he completed his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury.
The 22-year-old Pujara has never played for his country before at the senior level and the closest he came was representing them at the Under19 level, participating in the U-19 World Cup and finishing with the honours of being the top scorer for his country.
Pujara hails from the small town of Saurashtra in Gujarat and his town will be a happy place as for the first time in three decades that a cricketer hailing form http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saurashtra-c839 has been named in the Indian national side for a test series.
Yajuvendra Singh was the town’s last representative at the highest level back in 1979. Dilip http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja has also played for team India in the shorter format of the game.
However, no one since Yajuvendra Singh managed to earn a test cap for his country and it still remains to be seen if the youngster will be able to break the jinx.
His selection for the Border-Gavaskar trophy has put the 22-year-old Pujara on top of the world and he was quoted as saying that his happiness couldn’t be measured and he could feel like he had become a father for the first time.
Pujara is currently playing in the JP Atray trophy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and his impressive performances with the willow have earned him a call for the national duty.
Pujara’s father sees the call up to the national side as a result of tremendous patience and resilience showed by his son. His mother says that the youngster has the ability to stay calm, composed and disciplined under pressure and if true, such attributes
could come in very handy in a test series of such a magnitude.
It’s an ultimate case of schadenfruede, as one man’s joy is another pain.
Yuvraj Singh suffered a series of injuries last season and kept coming in and out of the national side and as a result his form, the left hander was never the same. After missing the final two tests against Sri Lanka, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s Chairman of Selectors, Krishnamachari
Srikkanth didn’t deem it necessary for the left hander to be a part of the squad for such an important series.
The test series between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 promises to be a mouth watering prospect as both the teams are vying to become the number one test side in the world according to ICC test rankings.
