Australia’s miseries continue
As if the recent defeats weren’t bad enough, the Australians were yet again overwhelmed by another defeat that was practically slapped on their face in the first One-Day international against the touring Sri Lankan side in Melbourne.
Throughout the match the visitors were nowhere near to winning the game and were totally dominated by the Australians, but it was the late unpredictable onslaught by the tail-enders, Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga, which snatched away a sure win from the
clutches of the Aussies.
Perhaps the beauty of this game that lies in its unpredictability is finally coming back. This miraculous knock with the bat from a point of no-return by the Sri Lankans comes just a few days after Abdul Razzaq played the innings
of his life and won http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 a match singlehandedly against the mighty South Africans.
This is Australia’s 6th consecutive loss in all formats of the game clearly igniting panic in Australia’s cricketing circles by now.
The series with the Sri Lankans was being totally over shadowed due to the upcoming Ashes series. The Australians were considering it to be good practice just before serious stuff begins in the Ashes, but all of that has been changed
by the Sri Lankan Tigers. The Sri Lankans have clearly carved their fangs in the necks of the flamboyant Australians.
The visitors started the tour with a win in the only T20 match of the tour giving the Australian T20 captain, Michael Clarke nightmares. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 has no idea, how, and why his side was dominated by the Asian visitors in that Twenty20
match. However, Clarke’s ordeal was refreshed by the latest jaw breaking loss as he stood as stand-in captain, for Ricky Ponting, who missed this match due to the death of his grandmother.
Looking back at Australia’s recent cricketing debacle, the defeat is no doubt an added insult to their current losing streak. Australia is not in a habit of losing back to back games, and that too from a winning position.
These recent failures have certainly added a blow to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s preparations for the much hyped Ashes series. Now, the nerve testing time has started for the Aussies as the English side has already reached the continent and they
are keeping an eye on every move the Aussies make.
It might also be that the presence of the Englishmen on their soil is proving a bit too nervy for the Australians; however, the English cricket board’s main objective to send the team to Australia a month earlier could have been
to make them uncomfortable right in their own backyard.
Australia are no doubt in a state of limbo right now; the coach, the team, the captain, and the Australian cricket board are all focusing on the Ashes right now as they have to rethink of their priorities.
If they cannot win against the Sri Lankans, who have never won a series in Australia, their odds of winning against the English side seem to be very low.
