Australia's world cup Squad, part -2
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has won 4 of the 9 World Cups staged so far. They also hold the record for winning 3 World Cups back-to-back. But looking at the current form of the world champions, not many would bet in favor of another triumph for the team.
Ricky Ponting, the man under the hammer these days for losing his 3rd Ashes as captain, has long been the leader who, not only is a captain, but also leads by example by dominating with the bat. His unbelievable century in the final
of 2003 World Cup against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 is a prime example of leading upfront in big games. However, he would have to dust himself up and get back to full fitness and confidence if he is to lead his team to another World Cup victory. He remains one of the most prolific
batsmen in the world of cricket and, when on song, can certainly win a match on his own.
Ponting's deputy for the World Cup remains his long time prodigy, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120. When the right hander first came onto the scene, he was dubbed as the biggest talent to come out of Australia since his captain. Clarke piled up big runs in
Tests and ODIs and it was not long into his international career when several former Australian cricketers singled him out as the next captain. Like Ponting, he too is struggling for runs and it may do him good to get some big innings under his belt during
the 7 match series against England.
Michael Hussey is another man in the Aussie middle order, who is a potential match winner. The left hander was introduced to international cricket, perhaps, a bit too late, but the maturity and class he brought to the team has no parallel.
It is his ability to take over an innings and to maintain his composure in the toughest of situations that got him the nickname of ‘Mr Cricket’. Currently, he is out with an injury, and the Aussies would be praying hard that he recovers in time for the World
Cup next month.
Next man in the middle order is Michael's brother, David Hussey. Long been overshadowed by the exploits of his brother, David offers a whole different package to the team. Known for his ability to get big hits in the final overs, he is also
someone who can build an innings. David can be a good pick, and this World Cup may be his last chance to cement a place in the team after being in and out for a few years.
Steven Smith is one man that the Australian board has been putting a lot of confidence in, but the leg spinner is yet to deliver. He is believed to be a capable leg spinner who can also do much with the bat. But, to be honest, he is yet
to deliver on either front. He has often been promoted up the order, not just in ODIs and T-20s, but also in test matches, which indicate that the Australian selectors have a lot of faith in him. He will have a lot to prove in the Subcontinent next month.
