Austria defeats Slovakia by 3-1 – 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship
The second day of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Men took place on April 12.
The tournament is currently being held in Turkey with the city of Ankara playing host to the matches. The venue of the competition was the Baskent sports hall and the two teams that played the second match of the day were from Austria as well as Slovakia.
The contest between the two sides was exciting as both the teams provided each other with quite a challenge in the four set long competition. By the time that the match was over and the Austrians celebrating their win, the scoreboard showed the following
final set scores: 17-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 27-25.
The player that was able to earn the title of the top scorer of the match belonged to the Slovakian squad. Lukas Stahuliak, who is the opposite on his team, kept the scoreboard ticking by tallying a total of 23 points in the match.
On the other hand, the player that was able to score the most points in the Austrian squad was Lorenz Koraimann with a total of 18 points.
The first set of the match swung in favour of the Slovakians from the beginning as they were leading at the first technical time out at 8-5. Not only that, the Slovakians kept the Austrians trailing behind till the second technical time out as they stretched
their advantage to 16-9.
After that point, it was only a matter of time before the Slovakians bagged themselves the opening set of the match at 25-17.
The loss of the first set got the Austrians charged up in the second one and they put on a good show that enabled them to seal the deal on the frame at 25-21 and make the match reach a tie. The confidence generated by winning the second frame enabled the
Austrians to plat a superior game in the third set as well. The Slovakians fought long and hard in the fourth frame of the game in order to give themselves a winning chance, but the Austrians secured it at 27-25.
