  1. With the microscope trained on Austria right now, the media would play up a speeding ticket there.

In time, another country will find itself under the microscope for a horrible crime.  No country is immune.  There are nuts everywhere.

"Aileen Carol Wuornos (born Aileen Carol Pittman) (February 29, 1956 – October 9, 2002) was an American prostitute and serial killer.

The Boston Strangler is a name attributed to the murderer of several women in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, in the early 1960s.

Albert Hamilton Fish (May 19, 1870 – January 16, 1936) was an American serial killer, child molester, and cannibal.

Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo (October 16, 1936 – February 14, 1994) was a Russian serial killer.

Ian Brady (born Ian Duncan Stewart on January 2, 1938 in Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland) is a notorious Scottish serial killer.

Mary Flora Bell (born on May 26, 1957 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne England) was convicted in December 1968 of the murders of two boys.

Herman Webster Mudgett (May 16, 1860 – May 7, 1896), better known under the alias of "Dr. H. H. Holmes," was an American serial killer. Holmes trapped and murdered possibly hundreds of guests at his Chicago hotel, which he opened for the 1893 World's Fair. "

Statistically, the murder rate in Austria is just .81 for every 100,000 people, while in the U.S. it is 5.9, in Switzerland it's 2.94, in the U.K. it's 2.03, in France it's 1.64, in Jamaica it's a whopping 49 per 100,000 and in Mexico it's 13.04.

Think about it - you're over 7 times safer in Austria than in the U.S.

  2. Austria is a small country, and I think you are right to notice that three psychos in 2 years is a lot for a country with the population of NYC. Austrians are not sinister in general, but I have to say their mentality is such that it doesn't suprise me that sinister people could be Austrian. Let me explain...

I've lived here for over a year and I am married to an Austrian. This is only a scenario, I'm sure there will be some who disagree.....

Some Austrians tend to have huge egos and be extremely selfish. You can observe this in the grocery store or walking on the street, you don't even have to know somebody to realize they think they are more important than you.  Said people disregard others who they see as being under them. Americans would say they are rude, but I'm telling you, it's more of a way of life around here. War mentality (fighting for food) and nobility (ranking everyone) left their mark on this nation.

When you take that kind of a mentality to the furthest extreme, you might very well get three men with huge ego's who do everything in their power to control others.

All that being said, I think we know some Americans (ahem.."W") with the same qualities.

  3. RUBBISH !

  4. May be , Switzerland where people have hide money in secret numbered accounts.

  5. No way! nearly every country has these perverts , they are a very prolific breed now, Austria is a beautiful place

  6. Austria is a beautiful country but there are a lot of sick people there.  Think about it Austria gave us Hitler the most sinister personality there is.  The people tend to be narrow-minded and elitist (thinking they are still part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.)  Yet the post-baby boomer generation which has grown up with television,is more objective and humane in their perception of the world.  Austrians are changing for the better

  7. Yes I agree.   They still have laws in effect that were used during the cold war to stop people from speaking out.

  8. Don't you think you are a bit racist and biased ?

To judge an entire country  by one case is just plain stupid!

BTW I protest Yahoo double standards a question asking this about the USA would be on here for 10 minutes maximum!

But apparently it is different who get insulted!!

  9. Please!  Just because of a handful of high profile criminal situations?  I would think that the US or the UK could easily qualify as much more sinister in the world.
