Austrian International Challenge 2012: Erik Meijs trounces Maximilian Koreny in qualifying round
Nederland’s Erik Meijs proved his improved skills when he trounced Canada’s Maximilian Koreny in Men’s Singles qualifying round of the Austrian International Challenge 2012 on Wednesday, February 22, in Austria.
Meijs delivered a stunning performance as he showed no respect to his Canadian rival throughout the match and crushed him in straight games by spending just 22 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Koreny completely failed to respond well against the power play of his Dutch opponent and lost the match without taking even a single set.
It was a one-sided fight where Meijs was on a completely different level as he was far ahead of his challenger in all aspects of the game and ended the match with a comprehensive margin on the score board.
Meijs entered into the court with a solid approach as he played with aggression in the opening set and did not let his opponent to dominate the game. His positive and fast play disturbed the flow of his rival, who failed to respond well in the first half.
The Dutch remained on track and did not take much time in setting up a wonderful lead of 11-6 until one minute interval.
After the break, Meijs continued his dominating run as he did not drop his speed at any stage. On the other hand, Koreny could not play fast game as he was lacking the speed to execute strokes in the right areas.
Meijs did not face tough resistance from his Canadian challenger and ended the opening game with a remarkable 21-10 score on the board.
In the second set, Meijs again started the game in an authoritative way as he took an early lead by controlling the pace of rallies. He remained on track and took an 11-6 lead in the first half of the game.
After the break, Meijs remained positive and did not let his rival to narrow the gap at any stage. He ended the second game with a stunning margin of 21-8.
Meijs won this qualifying-round clash in straight games with a one-sided 21-10 and 21-8 score on the board.
