Austrian International Challenge 2012: Sayaka Takahashi wins Women’s Singles crown – Badminton news
Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi strongly made her presence felt to the world of badminton as she won the Women’s Singles crown at the Austrian International Challenge 2012 on Saturday, February 25, in Austria.
In the title match, Sayaka thrashed the World Number 31 Chan Tsz Ka of Hong Kong, who was the top seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament.
The spirited Japanese showed her elevated skills as she thrashed her higher ranked challenger in straight games by taking just 28 minutes in the court.
Sayaka proved that she is ready to take the bigger challenges as she has what it takes to become a world class shuttler.
In the opening rallies of first game, Sayaka put up superb show of fast and aggressive badminton as she matched the speed of her higher ranked rival and also remained positive.
Sayaka’s shot selection and execution was impressive as she did not miss any chance to put pressure on her higher ranked opponent who was struggling hard to take the bird early from all areas.
The Japanese delivered strong performance as she did not drop her speed and also pushed her rival in all areas of the court. Her aggressive and dominating play troubled Tsz Ka in the first half of the opening set. Until the break, the Japanese managed a reasonable lead.
After the break, Tsz Ka tried to overpower her lower ranked challenger but failed to dominate the rallies as Sayaka was quicker in taking the bird early from all areas of the court.
The un-seeded Japanese remained positive in the entire opening game and took it with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Sayaka surprised everyone by playing attacking and flawless badminton. She took over the control in the opening points and remained ahead of Tsz Ka until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Sayaka did not lose her focus and continued playing aggressive badminton. She did not face any problem from her rival in the concluding phase of second game and bagged it with a tremendous margin of 21-9.
The overall result of this Women’s Singles title match was 21-17 and 21-9.
