Austrian International: David Obernosterer crushes Kieran Merrilees in Men’s Singles first round
David Obernosterer, an elite shuttler from Austria, started his campaign in a perfect fashion as he easily crushed Scotland’s Kieran Merrilees in Men’s Singles first round at the Austrian International Challenge 2013 on Thursday, February 21, in Austria.
The local shuttler was in completely commanding position as he played with staggering speed and cheered his home fans by ending up the opening round clash in just 26 minutes with a completely one-sided fashion.
Obernosterer was at the best of his form as he played with wonderful confidence and remained successful in winning the battle in straight sets with a thrashing 21-6 and 21-13 total on the score board.
On the other hand, Kieran failed to respond to the power play of his local challenger. He could not put up strong show at any stage in this Men’s Singles fight and eventually crashed out without making his presence strongly felt in the arena.
In the starting set, the confident Obernosterer delivered a spectacular feat in the arena as he executed shots with impressive variations from initial rallies.
Austrian shuttler showed that he has achieved top quality skills on court and remained successful in taking a strong domination on court.
Until the end of starting half of first game, the in-form Obernosterer attained a strong position on board by setting up a huge lead as he did not face even a meagre resistance from his rival.
The underdog Kieran could not to create trouble for his rival after the mid-game interval as he lost his focus on court.
It was a smooth ride for the in-form Obernosterer who did not face any reasonable resistance from his rival and won the first set with a stunning 21-6 difference on the board.
The incredible Kieran worked hard to play positive badminton in starting half of second set but could not create pressure on his rival.
Until the end of first half, the impressive Obernosterer continued playing with control and variations and remained ahead on the board.
In the concluding part of second game, the lofty Obernosterer continued his power play and easily grabbed the second set with a big margin of 21-13.
