Austrian compulsory army service?

Hey Guys,

I'm from NZ and getting an Austrian passport as my grandfather was an austrian jew and never became a citizen here.

Just looking for info on the following things..

Do female citizens have to do compulsory army service??

Is Austria part of the European Union?

Hallo,

I am from Germany, but the countries are all so close together in Europe that I can answer your questions.

Compulsory military service is a male only requirement, however female may join the Austrian Army on a voluntary basis.

Austria is part of the European Union since 1995.
