Austrian manufacturer KTM might participate in 2012 World Superbike Championship – WSBK news
Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has hinted that it might take part in the upcoming 2012 World Superbike Championship season.
The company has been working to align a project for the international racing series on a large scale. KTM has shown a good desire to represent itself on a global scale in racing.
Head of Road Racing at KTM, Wolfgang Felber said, “With Martin as test rider and Konrad and his team behind him we will surely reap the same rich benefit for developing the Superbike as we do from our factory riders' input into the development of our off-road
bikes.”
Felber further added, “KTM is proud of its 'Ready to Race' philosophy and it goes without saying that the experience we gain on the track is directly reflected in the development of our series model machines.”
The Austrian company has also been previously named in the World Superbike class on the day it introduced the 1190 RC8 power plant. The twin cylinder motor was launched in 2008.
However, the KTM still restricted its role to the Superstock 1000cc class. Another series in which KTM has earned a good name is Germany-based IDM Superbike series.
Recently, KTM has secured a title in the IDM Superbike Championship with the team rider Martin Bauer. The KTM team rider has a vast experience of motorcycle racing.
The success in the championship has motivated the company to conquer a new horizon in racing. It is expected that the Austrian manufacturer will be in WSBK by 2012.
Felber has also declared that the KTM is looking forward to make some wild card entries in the 2012 WSBK season.
On the other side, Bauer is looking forward to make a move towards being a full time test rider for the manufacturer which can provide a strong feedback in the development of the bike for the series.
With the new approach, KTM has also launched its Moto3 class 250cc four-stroke engine and has confirmed its participation in the Moto3 class beginning from the 2012 season.
