Austrian players dominate Austrian Open 2011 qualifying round – Table Tennis Update
The 2011 Austrian open has been scheduled from September 21-25 as the tour is held at the Werner Schlager Academy. A lot of players from the host nation participated at the event as a total of four female and 17 male players participated at the event. The
top players from Austria include Daniel Habesohn, Feng Xiaoquan, Stefan Fegerl, Borna Kovac and Sofia Polocanova stood tall.
Stefan Fegerl dominated the match as he defeated Clarence Chew of Singapore in four straight games. Chew could not continue his top form as he was in an impressive touch during the Chinese Taipei Open and in the Junior Boys. Fegerl took full advantage of
the home turf and overcame the Singapore player despite his best form.
Fegerl was delighted after the win as he mentioned that the Austrian players have been training in the same arena and that gives them an advantage over their competitors. He said, “Of course, the home tournament is a special challenge for us; we practice
and play here every day. So it’s a great occasion to compete here against the best of the world.” Fegerl defeated Chew in a game that lasted for four sets as the Austrian dominated by winning the first four sets in the best of seven games with following scores:
11-2, 11-3, 11-7 and 11-4.
Daniel Habesohn also stood out for Austria as he overcame Croatian player Filip Cipin in the four straight games. Habesohn repeated Fegerl’s performance and dominated as he won the match in straight four sets: 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6. Both Habeshon and
Fegerl find easy victories but their compatriot Borna Kovac had a tough match against Luxembourg’s player Gilles Michelly.
It was an intense match between the two young players as the game was stretched to the last set before the 20-year-old Austrian sealed the win with the following scores: 7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, and 11-5. Things were going in Austria’s favour
all the way as Martin Storf was declared the winner because his opponent Frantisek Placek of Czech Republic failed to make an appearance.
Austrian boys showed their skills and conquered the Austrian Open 2011 qualification round and last but not least, Sofia Polcanova made her presence felt with a dominating win. Earlier this year Sofia won the Junior Girls Singles event during the Spanish
Junior and Cadet Open. She won over Vinita Schlink of Luxembourg in four straight sets: 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 and 11-8 during the Austrian Open 2011.
