Do you know a casual authentic Vietnamese restaurant in NYC run by Vietnamese with a Vietnamese menu (i.e. not the modern white folk run rip offs)

  1. Try Boi, 246 East 44 St betweeb Second and Third Aves or Nam located downtown at 110 Reade St near W. Broadway.

Authentic and food is quite good.

  2. Head on down to Chinatown.  There is one that is fantastic and very cheap on Doyers (sp) spelling.  Was always a great place when on jury duty.  It's definitely owned by Vietnamese people, not Chinese or Caucasian people.  The best thing about it was the prices.  Have a great time down there, even though it is a long trip downtown, it is worth it.  Sorry I can't remember the name.

Also, check Zagat's, they have listings of Vietnamese restaurants that are REAL.

  3. Try Pho Bang in Elmhurst Queens...real Vietnamese food run by vietnamese ppl.

The place itself looks dirty....but the food is really cheap and good.  They specialize in Pho....but have other things on the menu too.
