Question:

Authentic american style buffalo wings in London?

I just moved to live in London, after living in america for the last 5 years, and have a craving for some real, spicy, american buffalo wings with bleu cheese.

All the wings ive tried in this city so far are imitations, and poor ones at that - anyone have any recommendations for where to get some authentic american buffalo wings?

  1. You'll love me for this.  Go to the Sports Cafe in Haymarket (round the back of Picadilly Circus.)

They serve American style buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce in a variety of hotness- I usually go for 'suicide.'  If you go on a Thursday it's known as 'Wild Wing Night' where you get 60 wings for £9 and a bucket of 5 beers for £7.  They also have wing eating competitions which the Americans (unsurprisingly) usually win.

Walk from Picadilly Circus tube station towards Liecester Square.  You'll see a massive fountain on the right... once you see it, take the immediate right turn onto 'Haymarket'.  You'll walk past Tiger Tiger on the left and a theatre on the right.  The Sports Cafe is right at the bottom of the road on the right.

  2. Christopher's american grill. You'll find american dishes including buffalo wings, oysters and the steaks are really good too. Its on wellington street, west minster. I've not been here for a good while now but i know its still quite popular. Hope you enjoy living in London.

  3. Although I do not have a recommendation on where to dine, but I can give you a recipe to make them yourself at home.

For the buffalo sauce you would take equal parts margarine or butter and hot sauce, the best to use would be Petes or red hot.  Now to cool them down but still have that buffalo flavor I will add an equal part of french dressing.  My kids love this.  Now to prepare you wings, just dust in a little flour, you may add seasonings to the flour but do not add salt, there is plenty in the buffalo mix.  The fry until golden brown.  Dip in you sauce, then bake for about 15 minutes to let the flavors absorb into the chicken.  Then dip again and serve.  For a little kick you can marinade you wings in strait hot sauce.  Good Luck, I hope that this helps.
