Question:

Authorized poster on list not receiving copies of email sent by poster.?

I have a closed group allowing only specific people to post. One of these people (posting by email, not through the web) has reported that the group is not sending her a copy of her posting. She is concerned that her email is not being distributed since she doesn't get a copy from the group. There is no bounce history for her email address. Her list setting shows unmoderated, individual emails, and default message format. How do I fix this or is this a feature of how the group distribution works?

  1. 1st - does the post show up in the group message archive?

If so, then the message is getting sent to the group!

If you don't archive messages in your group - check the following to see if her messages are being received:

    - Management / Group Activity / Message Posts

This will show all the messages the group has posted.

If not, then her message may be going to the Group 'Pending Messages' or 'Possible Spam' folders waiting for release by the group Owner or Moderator (with the appropriate privileges).

Note: Yahoo! Groups restricts messages to 1 megabyte in size to prevent abuse. Email clients and ISPs sometimes add additional kilobytes to messages, so to be safe, send messages that are smaller than a 1MB.

The clarification was more confusing then the original question.

"This is not a mail server issue. The user could add a cc:, but that does not verify that the post has been distributed. Most list producst allow the sender to chose whether they will receive a copy from the list of the posts they send. In this case, it looks like Yahoo does not support this functionality. I'm just trying to verify this is true."

What is the message delivery option for this member?:

The options are: Individual Emails, Daily Digest, No Email or Special Notices

Daily Digest, No Email or Special Notices do not receive individual messages!

Finally - Maybe her messages are being returned to her SPAM/Bulk/Junk folder:

Yahoo! Mail bug mistakenly causing some Groups mail to be marked as spam:

Apologies for not posting to the blog about this issue earlier, but we do want to let folks know that we're aware of the problem with Yahoo! Mail mistakenly diverting some messages from Yahoo! Groups to the Yahoo! Mail spam or bulk folder.

The Mail team has just tonight pushed a fix to the problem, but they're not yet sure if the fix will address the problem completely or only partially. So if you're still finding messages from Groups sent Wednesday (10/24) or later being wrongly diverted to your Spam or Bulk Mail folder, please let our Customer Care team know:

It will help us solve the problem more quickly. Thank you,

  2. depends on the mail server that person is using. many do not send their own copy to them (why I couldn't tell ya) Gmail is known for this.

it's not a group issues, it's a mail server issue on their end and you cant fix it, they need to contact their server/ provider
