  1. well my brother is deaf, he's been labeled as having autism. He does not though, but he has went to school with kids who have autism.

I honestly, think it's very sad but autistic kids are so sweet :] And they really make you truly smile.

  2. My Brother has it.

  3. There was a guy who would come into a restaurant where I worked who had autism.  He only talked to the female employees.  He was disgusting.  Wiped his nose and would try to hold your hand/touch your arm, sneezed without covering his mouth, etc.

He remembered everybody's birthday and knew everything about sports.  He'd run away from you if you would tell him you were sick.

I was sick every day.  Bird flu, west nile, AIDS, you name it.  I did NOT want him around me.

  4. Does Asperger Syndrome count? (I have AS - a mild form of autism) Yes, and i do know people that have it. My thoughts - it is rough, and the challenges should never be underestimated, particularly when a person reaches adulthood. Autism does not 'disappear' when a child becomes an adult, contrary to popular opinion. Autism is on a continuum, or spectrum. It manifests itself in many ways. Not all autistic people shun human contact. Many autistics crave it but just don't know how to interact.

  5. As a teacher, I have taught a couple, and while autism can be a frustrating, difficult struggle for the person caring for the child, autistic children have beautiful qualities about them that many fail to recognize.

If you get a chance, try looking for a recent clip on YouTube or CTV from the show W5 (a Canadian documentary show), broadcasted this past year on CTV.  They had an amazing story about a teenager with autism who was able to speak for the first time through a computer.  Her reflections were incredible (made me cry).

My hats off to you though.  I bet you're a great mom.

  6. YES! My middle sister has severe autism and is totally nonverbal and doesn't really understand much language. It is pretty devestating to myfamily and I that we essentially cannot communicate w. my beautiful sister and I cry a lot about it...and yet, my sister is the most beautiful soul that I know- always smiling and pure heart and her beauty shines through her soul. I believe she is a true life angel. Maybe my sister views life in a more pure way than I do and sees joy in life more so than me...I don't know... I also work with children w. autism and they are the most incredible children-- each so beautiful in their own way. Yes there are definite struggles and I believe we need to work to find a cure to help children and adults w autism to be able to communicate better...but in the meantime, I believe G-d has created children w. autism for a reason, maybe to teach us some valuable lessons in life, as Ibelieve each child and individual w. autism possesses above ordinary qualities and unique gifts that we all can learn from. we must love and accept people w. autism as they are and help them reach their full potential

  7. My baby cousin has autism.

I haven't spoken to him in at least 6 months.

I feel horrible, but every time I see some way that I can help, I do.
