My son is 4 weeks old and due for a whole set of vaccinations at his 2 month check up. I am so worried about him getting sick from them. My doctors office will drop us if we choose not to vaccinate. Any Moms out there that have had this situation? What did you do?

  1. There is no proof that autism is caused by vaccines, but still lots of people worry, because we really don't know for sure. I was worried too, even though I do autism research and don't think there is a link. But my doc was nice, he said that he could space them out (so not a whole bunch at one visit) and that a few could wait so they are more spread out (like there is little chance your baby will be exposed to Hepatitis but a higher risk s/he could get pertussis or meningitis and which can potentially be fatal.)

In the end I have done the first 2 rounds with no side effects (but crying!). But you should have a doc that you can at least talk to and hear your concerns. Good luck! Think, even though more kids do get autism, there are other reasons for that (a range of kids are now included in the diagnosis of "autism" now). And all kids would have autism if vaccines caused it!

  2. Hopefully this will help. http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook...

If not, you can ask on the forum for your state for any doctors flexible  about vaccines. http://mothering.com/discussions/forumdi... I just saw that the forum is closed for posting until August 31, while they do updates to the website.  So I guess wait unitl Sunday to ask a question there.

If still not luck, you could look for a family practice doctor instead.  They tend to be less rigid about vaccines than pediatricians.

There are exemptions for school vaccine requirements.

  3. I worry about the same thing everytime a vaccination milestone is coming.  What comforts me is the though that I would rather take the chance and vaccinate than watch my baby or child lie in a hospital bed because they have contracted a disease because I made a choice that was not the highest recommendation.  The chances are greater that they will get the illness especially due to the fact that there are SO MANY parents that are refusing vaccinations!  That makes the chances even greater.  I also would like my children to participate in normal activites including, um, school and sports and camp and someday college... which you can not do if you do not vaccinate.  So unless I want to move to a farm and home school my kids (or put them in a bubble since our envirnoment has proven fatal effects) then they will be vaccinated.
