  1. Isn't there a social service agency in the area? Or perhaps a support group for parents of autistic children? They might know of group homes.

I think it is very wise of you in laws to plan now for the future. It will be much easier for your brother in law if he is placed while mom and dad are still there to give him support.

  2. hi. they may have to go on a waiting list. go to www.disabilityinfo.gov and start contact your state socials service agencies in the state.

My child has autism and is an adult.

  3. It is unfortunate for this man that he was born 40?years later. Many people with autism now have a higher chance of gaining much dependence. I have a teenager with autism who I was told would never walk or talk. She now runs, has some verbal and improving. Our relief is that she will have some major independence when older. Discuss this with his parents. In Australia there are few places for a dependant person with autism accept in institutions or nursing homes. The main concern his parents probably have is not so much where he is placed but how much support and monitoring of his care his relatives will show when they are gone.

  4. He needs to be registered with your state developmental disabilities office---you will get a caseworker---in my state there are waiting lists for group home placements--with older caregivers--teh perosn gets priority palcement...
