Question:

Auto Body Shop / Insurance Question?

I dropped off my LEASED car to a body shop on June 4th to have some dents/dings/scratches removed, I informed the owner that this car was being leased and is DUE BACK on June 18th. He informed me that the car would be done by the 16th, to make sure I had 2 days to clean the vehicle before it needed to be brought back to Jeep.

It is now June 25th and they just started to "paint" the scratches out of the car today. Now, my insurance is up, I had to cancel 2 appointments with the Jeep inspector already. Is there anything I can do for this inconvenience?

  1. As far as your insurance being up goes. If you are going to turn in some type of claim you can use the date of the body shop estimate as your claim date. Pertaining to the date that the body shop owner told you the repairs would be finished. If it is not in writing you have no proof that it was promised. If it is in writing, you can ask for compensation. You probably won't receive it. You could then take the owner to small claims court.

  2. I was never in this situation, but I wouuld say document everything that's going on in the body shop, and also keep your papers, and show them to the Jeep inspector to see if he won't penalize you for something that's on the body shop.
