Question:

Auto Insurance....Who carries what?

So hubby and I recieved a car from MIL. The car is still under lien thru her name. We explained to her that she has to carry the insurance on the car since its titled in her name. Once its switched then we can take over it. Well....the insurance she has on it is over $60 a month. We own an 02 Camry which has all the bells and whistles in insurance at just over $80 a month. The she liens is a 1998 plymouth breeze with over 130000 miles on it. I feel like this is way too much to insure the car.

Now...I call the insurance company since they send me the bill and find out we are paying for a policy that covers her and us!!!! WTH...they refuse to change it even though I dont drive the car (its a stick).

My question is why should we be on the policy if she carries the insurance in her name alone and we are covered on our own policy! The car just needs to be insured right?

  1. Great design, resourceful information,user-friendly layout should be a good place to answer your questions.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  2. if i read this right your mother in law lives with you but has her own car and insurance.. if thats the case fax over the moth in laws proff of insurance and tell them to remove the car from your policy being she is the driver and has her own insurance. and the reason it cost more is the safty options on the car the safer the car the cheaper to insure. older cars are less safe thus more to insure.

  3. Well, the car is with you, you and your husband are the drivers in your household, both of you need to be listed on your MIL's insurance policy.  Just because it is stick & you don't drive it, doesn't mean you won't.  They don't know if you decide one day you want to learn how to drive it.  Once the car is paid off, you can take title & register it & add it to your policy (I would also take the comprehensive & collision off, there is not much value left in the vehicle, over 10 yrs old with that mileage).  Your MIL cannot take off the comprehensive & collision coverage until the car is paid for.

My husband's vehicle is stick shift & I don't drive it, it doesn't mean I'm not on the insurance for it.

  4. I did not understand much of what you said...... if you drive the car and it's not under your name you still have to be on the policy because YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR.

  5. For car insurance the most efficient way to get a low rate is do a policy comparison on auto policies. Make certain that you pick similar options with the same deductibles, car type, zip code, etc so that all options are a good comparison.

What I most often recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and will give many quotes on auto insurance polices.

  6. Try this one - http://carquotes.fateback.com - I personally have their car insurance, cause it is the cheapest for my family in our area.

As I know it provides such a service.
