If the car door was slammed by a passing car and damaged, crushed a little and bent, difficult to close the door, does insurance cover something like this?

What kinds of things does insurance over, if the person who did it, drove away?

  1. Yes they would cover it under collision.

  2. There are two main types of coverage for auto insurance. Liability only and comprehensive covererage. Liability only covers damage you inflict on other people/objects. Liability only is available on cars that you own and is the least expensive. It doesn't cover your own car.

Comprehensive coverage is required if you still owe money on your car or it is a lease. This covers both damage you do and damage to your car.

Normally when someone else damages your car their insurance pays. Since this person fled the scene then you need to have comprehensive coverage to get the repair paid for. The insurance will pay up to the maximum of your partucular coverage level after they charge you for the deductable. You need to find out if the repair will even cost more then the deductable to begin with or otherwise it might make sense to leave the insurance company out of it.

  3. They would cover the repair costs AFTER the DEDUCTABLE is taken out, so it's still going to cost the owner $500 or so.

  4. Your insurance will cover it if you have full coverage.
