Auto insurance claim question?

So 3 weeks ago this guy hit my car, it was his fault (we both came to the conclusion he was a nice elderly man). Now three weeks later he has yet to call into the insurance company to give his statement. I could use this money really badly. I got his number along with the insurance info, would it be wrong to call him and ask him what's delayed him calling in his statement?

  1. It is no big deal.  Just give him a follow up call.  Let him know that you are anxious to get your vehicle repaired, and could he please call his insurance company to provide the with his version of the loss.   No harm in doing so.

  2. The insurance adjuster won't mind if you help out.

Many people think that when they report the claim - that's them giving their statement - so they don't return the adjuster's calls.

However, the adjuster needs to speak to him.

Reporting the claim - is not the same thing as giving a statement to the adjuster.

It's ok if you want to call him and (nicely) ask him to call the adjuster -- that the adjuster needs to speak to him in order to handle the claim.

  3. no.  call him and explain that he needs to pick it up on his end or else your insurance co will become involved and then it will be out of your hands...
