I have mercury insurance. I always pay my bills early. I paid them on the 29th of February, bill due on the 3/1. I just got a terminated letter in mail saying that my auto insurance is ending on the 26th and that I must pay all this money by that date. WTH? This is ridiculous

  1. Even thought you paid a day early the Bill was probably still considered late, if you mailed it you must mail it a few days in advance so that they recieve it on time.  If you paid by credit card the day before the payment wouldn't post for a few days.   When insured's pay late it puts an increased administrative burden on the insurer and they have decided they no longer want to have you as a risk.

The best you can do is pay what you owe and move on, in this case unfortunately, you are wrong.

    Best of Luck to you.

  2. Call them on Monday.  Maybe the payment didn't go through?  Maybe they posted your payment to the wrong account?  Who knows, you'll have to call and ask.

  3. If you have been late making a payment for three times, Mercury will can cell you. Your agent can re-write you, but you will normally be in a higher rated "tier" than before.

Look around and find another company.  Mercury is good, but picky!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  4. You did not say "how" you paid.  But you certainly did not pay this bill early unless you paid them in person or called them to have them take payment directly from your credit card or checking account.

Electronic bill payment from a checking account could take 2 to 5 business days otherwise, which would have been late.  And depending where you/they are, mailing a check could take anywhere from a few days to over a week.

So without any details, I am guessing that the earliest they might have received your payment was Monday, 2 days late, but likely later than that.

  5. Yeah definately give them a call. System's glitches are known to happen or possibly when you paid over the phone perhaps YOU maybe entered the wrong account number and someone else got credit...????

Be prepared with your credit card statements...or some proof that it was paid timely.  If you are correct, don't forget to ask them to reinstate you good student discounts...

    Good luck.

  6. I would definitly call them.  The company will ask for cancelled checks...be ready to produce them.  Without the cancelled check, there is NO proof you paid them, unless when you paid via another method, you received a signed and dated receipt for your payment.  This receipt would have had to have been signed by someone authorized at the insurance company to sign a receipt.

As stated earlier, it is possible that the payment was posted to the wrong account or it is also possible that the payment is sitting on someone's desk waiting to be posted.........

  7. contact them.  if you didnt mail your pymt until 2-29 and it was due on 3-1 it may not have gotten there on time.  MOST companies will reinstate once that pymt is received.  it sounds like something else may be going on.  i would definately call them and find out.
