Question:

Auto rental insurance question...?

I want to rent a car for a few days, but at $17 extra a day for their full coverage, wouldn't it be cheaper if I just added full coverage to my current policy and then cancel it after I return the car therefore costing me only a few dollars for the whole time frame if anything at all? Is this even possible to do?

  1. you can.  you can add full coverage AND take it off anytime you want to.  there is no MONTH requirement to keep the coverage on your policy!

  2. You should always have full coverage insurance on your car. I've learned this over many years of owning and driving cars. The extra cost is a very small price to pay for the extra security.

  3. Nope.  The minimum coverage would be at least 1 month.  Given that you also would have a deductible of $500 or more, it would not be a wise move.

Also consider the value of your car.  My vehicle is only worth $8,000 and if the rental I'm driving has damage over $8,000, I have to pay whatever is over that.  Much better to pay the $17 a day. I hate it too, but them are the breaks.
