Question:

Auto taxes in Germany?

I'm buying a car in the US but I'll be moving to Germany in a couple of years. I know that cars are taxed according to engine size in Germany. Does anyone know where I could find out approximately what my taxes would be for a 2.5 liter engine?

Danke schön!

  2. Taxes in Germany depends on the emission class the vehicle is assigned; the higher the class, the lesser the taxes are. Basic tax fee is counted on Euro per 0,1 liter; so you have to multiply with 25, if your engine has up to 2499ccm or with 26, if it is above 2500ccm (2,5 liter)

Emission class Euro 1 (usually old vehicles, more than 15 years) 15,13 €

Emission class Euro 2 (build end of the 90's) 8,61 €

    Emission class Euro 3 (build 2000-2005) 8,00 €

Emission class Euro 4 (build 2006 or later) 6,75 €

So for a new vehicle with less than 2,5 liter it will be 168,75 € annual tax, more than 2,5 liters will amount to 175,50 €.
