I have a 96 Acura Integra with an automatic transmission and 1.8 motor. A while back I changed the kick down cable after it broke when people broke in my car and stole stuff from the engine compartment. When the cable was installed, the gears didnt shift right. When it went from 1st to 2nd then 3rd etc, the rpms went up high then I eased off the gas to let it shift. I tightened up the kick down cable then its started to shift bitter. I have it tightened up and tight as it goes now but When I'm going on the freeway and I give it a lot gas, it wont down shift. Also, sometimes when I am going into a turn at about 15 mph and it downshifts to a lower gear because I'm slowing down... Right as its going to a lower gear, if I give it gas, it feels like its on neutral and I have to ease off the pedal to shift back up. Anyone have experience with this?

  1. The trans.is starting to slip change filter & fluid if that don't work .You need rebuild  the trans.good luck

  2. The cable has absolutely no effect on the way your transmission shifts through the gears, all it does is do a manual downshift when you have the gas pedal all the way down.

Have your transmission looked at by a good transmission shop.

Since it seems to slip on a turn, you might also be low of fluid, have you checked the level?

  3. sounds like a tranny problem and not the kickdown cable.
