Ok so if I'm running MS-DOS/windows95 and I accidentally deleted the autoexec.bat file so that now my computer only runs in DOS, is there a way to restore windows? I haven't had the chance to even figure out if I have deleted the autoexec file or not, but I'm asking just so I know to try in advance when I go home.

Prefferably someway I can do myself. But if there is anything at all that can be done I'm open to hear it.

Its all related to this question:

If you think you can answer either I would really appritiate it

thanks!

  1. change autoexec.bak to autoexec.bat

    then win 95 will run again

  2. If you have deleted it accidentally, you can follow this steps:

    If you have Windows 95 or later versions of Windows it is recommended that you use the sysedit command; to run this program, click Start / Run and type sysedit.

    Autoexec.bat layout

    Below is an example of what an autoexec may look like:

    @echo off

    SET SOUND=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND

    SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6

    SET PATH=C:\Windows;C:\

    LH C:\Windows\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:123

    SET PATH=C:\Windows;C:\

    LH C:\Windows\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:123
