Question:

Autographs On Cards...?

I was wondering how you can get an autograph on a baseball card without the ink dispersing.

I met David Eckstein at a Blue Jays game and he signed my card but the ink dispersed slightly and therefore ruined the autograph. Luckily he also signed my Jays baseball that I get autographs on so I am not overly upset.

I do however want to know how to get my card signed so it turns out nice. I believe it was on a Through The Mail autograph site that said if you use an eraser on the top of the card it will make the autograph stick better. Any idea on if thats true and how hard to erase?

  1. there are special pens for signing baseball cards. the same ones u use to write on a cd.  apart from that use a sharpie always works

  2. On baseball cards use a sharpie,

on Baseballs use ball point pen

  3. Glossy cards aren't good for autographs but on regular cards, I would reccomend using a sharpie

  4. use a sharpie on a card then right after put ti directly in a plastic holder

  5. I'm guessing the problem occurs when the cards are really glossy.  To remove the gloss you could lightly rub with an eraser like you're read about.  You don't want to erase to much or you could damage the card.  It's probably best to practice on some duplicate cards until you figure out what's best.

Another thing you could do is rub baby powder or Gold Bond foot powder (less smell) on the card with your finger and then rub off the excess.

There are some cards are there (like Topps Heritage) that don't have the gloss that are probably better for signatures.
