Question:

Automatic Transmission oil shelf life?

I bought a 5 quarts of Automatic Transmission oil in February. It has been in my car trunk ever since that day through the cold and heat. My questions is will that have an effect on its quality and performance if I were to use it to replace my tranny oil? Or can I still use it to change in my tranny? Any suggestion and/or advises is appreciated.

  1. I think change it.

  2. No problem.  It is mixed/made to take temp changes.  Change the filter if so equipped.

  3. no problem its still good you might need more to change your oil but generally tranny oil is good up to and over 80.000 klics and more but they do recommend changing the filter also for the amount you have i would check with the dealer to see if you have enough

  4. its good!

  5. no effect still usable remember ur tranny heats up tp 190 or plus and its colder in the morning cause all that metal so ur trunk is ideal

  6. it doesn't hurt it none to set, i got some on the shelf that's two year old and its still good, there no expiration date on oil ,it will still be good, good luck.

  7. Go ahead and use it, its OK!!!  (as Long As It Is the Correct type!)

Just make sure that if you do decide to change your tranny oil that you have a big enough catch pan, and enough replacement oil on hand before you start the job

  8. i have never heard of a shelf life on petroleum products. i worked in  lube shop for 14 years, so i assume that having never heard of it , i don't think that it exists.
