The van runs fine but, when you first start-up or take off for the first time it will stay in first gear. Now if you down-shift from drive to 2nd it will shift normally. Then it works fine for a period of time. Also off and on the speed odometer fails to operate. Is there something that can be replaced to fix the problem like (a diaphragm)Thanks for your input.

  1. This vehicle uses a transmission that is electronically controlled by a computer. The most common cause for the symptoms you describe is a loss of vehicle speed input. It may be the speed sensor or the wiring. It may be as simple as a poor ground connection. This would also affect the speedometer as well. Another possible cause is the trans range sensor. Best option is to have it checked for any fault codes, preferably when the problem is happening. This will provide the best direction where to go from there.
