Automatic bank teller machine in Italy?

Question

I am leaving for Italy next week ( 21 sept. ) one week near Napoli , then one week in Tuscany. Don't want to bring too much Cash (Euros) How easy is it to access ATM in Italy?

Are there a lot of them? Do they all accept foreign Debit cards?

There are ATMs widely available. A few of them don't connect to the widely used networks, but most of them will. When you're here, look or ask for a Bankomat location - the term ATM is not used.

Ugly Teller = ATM = Bancomat, the common term used in Italy. It's easier to find a bancomat these days in Italy than a public telephone!

It is easy.  I have been to 66 countries and only Belize was a problem.  Not any more, most likely.

is pretty hard.....there aren't many ATM's like in USA, where there are in all the places ATM. You have to find a bank, and outside of it, you find an ATM, called Bancomat. But the problem is....not every time does work! Half of Milan's ATMs don't work! This is the italy. And not every time you can find an English version. If there is write "Servizio non disponibile" or "Servizio momentaneamente non disponibile" you can't use it.

atm's / bancomats are EVERYWHERE.   between buildings outside banks in hotels.  

yes, debit cards are also accepted no problem.  have fun!!!!

ATMs are pretty common in Italy unless you're in a more remote, rural area. But the major cities have them all over like they do here in the U.S. They do accept American debit cards.

There is an on line ATM finder (FARO), but I can't find the English version.

Fill the "Localita'" box  with "Firenze" (Florence in Italian), "Prov" with "FI", "Banca" with "BNL" (or any random Italian bank). You can fill the "via" box  with your hotel street name, but it's not mandatory.

Push the button "Cerca sportelli" and you will get a map: blue squares are ATM locations; a red cross marks the out of service ones.
