Automatic car??????????

when you have an automatc car if you look on the gear thing it will have and option like 1 and 2 and 3d what do thay mean??

1 is 1st gear only.

2 is 1st and 2nd gear only

3 is 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear and

D is for drive which is for all gears

The reason you would choose one of the lower gears is either while towing or if you are decending a hill and you want to have the engine do some of the braking for you rather than riding the brake ( and possibly overheating them ) for any extended period of time.

1 means that it will stay in 1st gear. 2 means that it will only use 1st and 2nd gear. 3 is the same, up to third gear, and D is for Drive, which will utilize all gears and depending on the car, also an overdrive gear as well.
