  1. As with any test, regardless of how much driver training you have been on, you have to wait 2 weeks before you can rebook your test.

You legally dont even need any driver training at all, you can just do the test.

I wouldnt recommend learning in an auto and just doing the auto test. That will restrict you to only ever driving an Automatic gear box car.

  2. Automatic over manual is entirely your choice but you will be limited to auto only if you go that way (manual people can drive either)

The intense course is better for two reasons:

    1. You get a 'bulk-buy' discount.

    2. If you have the usual 1 hour of lessons a week, you spend a wasted

10 minutes each time getting to grips with driving again.

Arrange a taster lesson with your new instructor and he will work out how many days of intense training you need

If you fail, they will not wipe your brain clean of all driving skill! Just book another couple of lessons and take another test. You would be lucky to get a next test within a week, so there is time to go over what went wrong with your instructor.

(I too did the intense course btw)

  3. Auto is not easier & at least with manual lessons you can have the choice of either. It may seem like a manual car is harder but it does take time to get used to it. I passed my test first time after 3 months (45 hours of lessons). Passing in a manual ca will also give you the choice of driving either & you won't have to pay for another test if you have to drive a manual car! Most intensive courses will allow you the opportunity to take another test, especially if you take one that guarantee's a pass.

  4. Hi, I'm not going to lecture you on your choice to drive auto - fair play to you - my mum learnt to drive in an auto cos she couldn't be bothered with having to change gears when she can get a car to do it for her!!! She has had no prob in the past 20 years of "being restrcited to driving just auto's" as both my old dears drive auto's and i somehow doubt very much my mum will be hiring cars abroad!!!

OK - slightly pessimistic but yeah IF you do fail you can BOOK another test that same day but the NEW test date must be 10 working days later - does that make sense?!!

You don't have to start from scratch, however if you go with a different instructor as your intensive course has finished, then they might take you somewhere quiet to start with until they know how good your driving is.

Put it this way - if i had someone who had just failed their test I would pick them up and drive them somewhere quiet and just watch them driving, gradually introducing new situations to see how they dealt with them - it's not like going back to basics but would you trust someone you didn't know with £10000 of car??!!! lol!!

Good luck - I'm sure if you've had 16 hours training already, you'll do just fine.

  5. Dont be lazy. Learn to drive a proper car (manual). Otherwise you'll be stuck having to buy only autos all the time.
