Question:

Automatic transmission on Honda Passport stalling engine and surging forward when stopped

I've got a 2001 honda passport, after is warms up if I stop suddenly the engine will cut off because the transmission is not letting the engine slow down. Also when I am coming to a normal stop, the tranny will not let the engine drop in RPMs causing it to kinda jump or surge forward. I've just had the tranny fluid changed and checked again, its good to go, just having the problems above still.

  1. Sounds more like an O2 sensor. Start there.

If your "Check Engine" light is not coming on this could be a clogged Idle Air Control valve(IAC) which can confuse the car's computers. I'm not able to narrow a pic of your specific model down but try this:

All you have to do is remove it and use a can of "Electronics Cleaner"  to spray it down good. LET IT DRY! before re-installing.

  2. Buy american

  3. could be a torque converter solenoid

    always get the 5spd

  4. this is defiantly a toque converter solenoid cheap and easy to install that whole thing about o2 sensors was stupid

  5. I think this a pretty common problem. If you google "Honda transmisson problems" it has plenty of forums and stuff with solution I'm sure.

  6. You may need a new transmission. This is actually a fairly common problem on 98-01 hondas with automatic transmissions. Here is a link to a discussion of the problem on accords, but it also applies to other models as well. http://www.v6performance.net/forums/show...
