Yup, as said above.  The VW TDI gets way better fuel economy than the Prius!

Fueleconomy.gov should have the mileage figures...not sure about the shuttle launch. Try this site.

Well if you want the best highway fuel mileage you need to look no further than a V.W. with their Diesel motor.  or even a Mercedes with a diesel.  an acquaitance with a TDI equipped Jetta gets 55 in town and about 65 on the freeway.  Even adjusted for the price difference between gas and diesel he is still spending less than all those silly prius owners do--coworker who has a prius gets 40 in town and 38 on the highway
