Automotive engineering...?

husband wants to transition from mechanic to engineer...

what schooling does he need and are there any online schools that he can attend

also ... what jobs are available and how can he find more information on this type of work.

I think that would fit into Mechanical Engineering since it covers the physics and mechanics of engines and systems within an automobile to include control, heating / cooling systems, fluid systems, etc.

There are some schools which are funded by the automotive industry that do have Auto Engineering, which incorporate many different facets of engineering to include mechanical, electrical, and computer science.

Check out some good schools that have a mechanical engineering discipline with a strong focus in automobiles. States of in the Midwest where the automotive industry is strong probably offer this type of curriculum.
