Autopsy report shows ex-NBA player Lorenzen Wright was shot five times
An autopsy report released on Wednesday revealed that former NBA player Lorenzen Wright died due to five gun shot wounds. Wright, who died last July, was found
dead in the woods in suburban Memphis.
The medical examiner's report, which was released on Wednesday, said that bullet fragments were found in the skull, chest and right forearm of the 13-year NBA veteran.
The fragments found indicated that there were five gun shots.
Wright had not been seen for ten days before he was found on July 28. He died at the age of 34. Since the discovery of Wright's body, no arrests have been made.
Memphis police have yet to name a suspect in the slaying.
Autopsy report
The news of the autopsy was first reported by WMC-TV. The autopsy, which was conducted by Shelby County authorities, found that due to decomposition, Wright's body
weighed 57 pounds when discovered. During his playing days, the 6'11" forward weighed 225 pounds. The report did not give information on when Wright had died.
In a telephone interview with the Associated Press, Deborah Marion, the mother of Wright, said, "I just want to remember him as he was, living in one piece, not
shot up."
Wright played 13 seasons in the NBA and had stints with five teams. In 779 games in the league, he averaged 8 points and 6.3 rebounds. He last suited up in the
league during the 2008-09 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wright lived in Smyrna, Georgia but frequently visited his six children in Memphis. Sherra Wright, the victim's ex-wife, told police that she had last seen her
former husband on July 18. A 911 call was made from Wright's cell phone hours later. Police dispatchers who received the call said that noises that sound like gunshots were heard before the phone call was dropped.
