Auxerre boss: Jose Mourinho needs time at Real Madrid
Auxerre manager Jean Fernandez has revealed that he believes Jose Mourinho has all the tools at his disposal to make Real Madrid into the most dominant team in the world — but he will need some time to
do so.
Mourinho, a man widely regarded as one of the best coaches on the planet, took over at Madrid in the summer and has orchestrated an overhaul of the squad in a bid to wrest back the La Liga title from Barcelona
and claim a record tenth UEFA Champions League title.
Madrid met Auxerre at the Stade de l'Abbe Deschamps in the elite European competition on Tuesday night, and emerged with all three points from the group stage clash after a goal from substitute Angel di
Maria. Madrid have struggled to record emphatic victories this season, but Mourinho’s steadfast defence have only allowed the opposition to score against them once.
Lack of goalscoring prowess
Fernandez was a first-hand witness of Madrid’s lack of prowess in front of goal — despite being able to boast such attacking talents as Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Gonzalo Higuain — but insisted
that, with time, Mourinho will be able to work his magic and mould Madrid into an impressive team at both ends of the pitch.
The Auxerre boss told Spanish daily newspaper
AS that: "You have to give a little time to Jose Mourinho for Madrid to be the best team in the world. Eventually, I think that Madrid will fight for the league with Barcelona, and also fight for the Champions League. They look bright in defence. My
team played well, organised in defence and we can say we have not struggled because they have not had many chances."
Madrid will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they take on Deoportivo de La Coruna in the league on Sunday.
