Auxiliary lamps.?

I was looking at a full dress Harley Davidson the other day and could not help but notice this. The auxilliary driving lamps looked very similar to the aircraft landing light on my buddies Cessna.

Is there a specific bulb for this application or are you guys going for a little extra candlepower for night riding?

I checked. It's an old airplane with a 12 volt system. Buddy says the lamps don't draw any more power than a car bulb.

I asked this before; I know. But I only got 1 reply and it didn't answer the question.

  1. Mine are a sealed beam bulb. 20 friggin bucks for one at the HD dealer. Maybe I can get them for less from Cessna.

  2. Aux lamps usually use an H3 bulb.

Some use a sealed beam bulb.

  3. They use Quartz Halogen bulbs usually (same as cars).

Be warned however, Harleys have a huge Generator output, whereas most motorcycles wouldn't cope with these lamps.

Generally they are purely for show, and mosly turned on when in a Cavalcade or similar.

  4. dont know where you are,but out here on the canadian praries, you gotta watch for  fn deer,(ask snoop)the extra lighting helps alot
