Avalanche tips!?

So this year I'm thinking of venturing further out of bounds than usual and tackling some SERIOUS back country (possibly some heli-boarding). This will probably happen around peak avalanche season, so I'm looking for recommendations on avalanche gear. Mainly a shovel and probe set. It has to be ablt to fit in my pack (Forum Orion Tech Pack) which I'd judge at about 20L. It has an internal shovel pocket tho. I'm looking for a really light weight (with the shortest handle possible) avalanche shovel. Hook me up yahoo!

An avalung and beacon are yet to be determined. Can you rent avalanche rescue beacons?

There are places where you can rent avalanche rescue beacons; this just depends on your location.

Be sure to get trained in back country survival techniques before venturing further. This is serious business. The best way to avoid disaster with avalanches it to learn how to anticipate and avoid them. You'll never regret the time or expense.
