Avast! or Avira AntiVir?

I wanted to know which free antivirus is better. So is it Avast! or Arvira AntiVir?

Both are excellent, Avira having slightly higher detection rates but Avast has greater protection.

Personally I use Avast on my main machine, and a variety of others on my test machine on which I import malware / viruses to test software.

The choice is yours, either is a good choice....makes a pleasant change not to be comparing with AVG which is bloated and problematic.

I use Avira Anti-Virus and so far I've had no problems with it. With the few minor infections I've had, it has never failed to alert me. Although having a good anti-virus program prevents getting infected, the user of the computer needs to practice safe computing ie not download programs from Limewire, etc.
