Avast(free) vs. 2004 corporate ed. symantec antivirus?

Ive had the 2004 version(think its 04, not sure) of corporate ed. Symantec Antivirus on my copmuter but have begun downloading good free antispyware/virus programs. As far as spyware goes ive got 2 things running constant protection, and 2 for scanning(not the same 2 things). And for viruses ive got Avast and the Symantec product listed above. Problem is only one can run constant protection. So, id like to hear which is better as far as a constant protector goes. I'll still use both for scanning tho. The symantec product isnt outdated, as i can still get updates for it today, the most recent one was downloaded yesterday, im just wondering if avast has a better record at preventing things. Thanks

Its really a matter of opinion, but I would prefer Avast.

Never install more than one anti virus, as they may conflict with each other.
