Avatar: the last airbender--sozin's comet(possible spoilers)?

Question

In the final showdown, after Katara trapped Azula in ice, why can't azula heat the ice and escape (like what zuko did during the siege of the north when he was swimming in the freezing waters and had to melt ice to enter the north pole territory, and also when he used his breath of fire at the break of dawn when he was trapped by ice)? Isn't Azula a firebending prodigy? She could have used her hands or her breath to heat up the ice!

Don't remember the episode much, but there are a few possibilties.. Azula's pretty much lost her mind at that point, maybe she didn't even have the presence of mind to do that. Also, Breath of Fire is something Iroh taught and stressed to Zuko, maybe she didn't know it. Plus, if I recall, Zuko broke out alone. Katara was standing there actively bending, maybe she could keep it cold and pressurized enough.

Otherwise, it's a T.V. show. It doesn't have to make sense.
