Ubisoft has teamed up with Marvel and officially announced Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth for the Microsoft Kinect and the Nintendo Wii U.
Ubisoft is a publisher known for various titles, franchises and series such as Raving Rabbids, Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Far Cry, however it seems to be trying its hand at Hollywood tie-ins, making video game adaptations of films.
Not just any film though, as the studio has signed a deal with Marvel, which will see the first Avengers game on the current, as well as the next generation of consoles. The game is set to be inspired less by the movie and more by the comic books and will
have unique plot and storyline.
Ubisoft Quebec, who are the developers of the upcoming game, announced that the game would be “Inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion storyline.”
The studio went on to then take advantage of the hype that the Avengers movie has been generating and living up to when they elaborated on their earlier statement.
“Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth features 20 different characters, including Avengers such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, as well as other fan-favourite super heroes and super villains from the Marvel Universe.”
It will be interesting to see how much artistic freedom the developers will have with the game and whether or not one will see a few Ubisoft characters come in as surprise entries to the game’s roster. Assassin’s Creed Ezio Auditore seems as if he would
make a likely candidate for inclusion in the game, though for the time being that is simply wishful thinking at the very least.
No specific release date was given for the game apart from the fact that the game would be released this autumn.
It should also be noted that the game will only be released for the Nintendo Wii U and the Microsoft Kinect. It seems that the Wii U is picking up plenty of momentum ahead of its anticipated release as they have yet another title added to their rosters.
The news makes the Nintendo press conference at E3 all the more interesting.
