I have a 1 story, block home in central Florida (built 63')- 45 yrs old. Installed Tempstar unit 10 yrs ago (2.5 ton) when I bought my home. Now the accumulator is leaking & beginning 2 rot ($500-$700 to replace I'd rather use that money towards replacing the entire system). The ducts are metal-must be original. I can only imagine how much mold & bacteria is encrusted in the ducts this is why I am thinking it may b best 2 replace ENTIRE system. I tend 2 cough in the mornings & wonder if this is related 2 this issue since I am not a smoker & in good health. When the tempstar unit was installed 10 yrs ago my home was 964 sq ft-we have since converted a sun porch into a room w/ insulated walls & now have 1100 sq ft - 2 small ac ducts were added in the ceiling-keeps the room cool. It was suggested I may need 2 increase to a 3 ton unit w/the new room addition-will find out when more tests are run. I've been told Florida code now requires 'returns' b added 2 each bedroom which is something
