  1. Alot. It would cost around 1500 dollar a week. Good luck, trustworth room mates would be the best idea in my opinion.

  2. New York is expensive.  The going rate for a 1 bedroom apartment is 2100 - 3000/month.  Studios can go for much less - from 1600 up.

I live in a 600 sq ft apt in Chelsea and pay 2250 for it, it's a great location and a great apartment.

The nice thing about NY is you can spend as much or as little as you want - if you are considering roommates, you can get a much nicer place as spend WAY less.  cable is up to you, transportation depends on where you work... i used to walk to work, now i take the train.  Subway is $2.00 a ride, but as an earlier answerer mentioned you can get a "monthly pass" for $81.

It's expensive, but it's great - and the jobs here pay much more than in other cities.

    Good luck!!

  3. I pay 1150 for a room in a three bedroom apt. It is in the Upper East Side in a really nce neighborhood which is why it is pricey but if you want to feel safe you are going to fork out a lot.

Monthly metro cards have now been raised to $81.

My advice would try to find a place where utilites are included because that can definitely add up especially of you are in an old building...our electric bill now is about 130 a month, granted thats three girls and with ACs because its summer.

Cable is about 90 a month.

    and cell about 70.

food really hard to say...food is expensive here (groceries) and you are surrounded by tons of awesome restuarants so depending on how much you eat out you can spend anywhere from 200-400 a month on food. So be careful there.

    So thats....

    1150-rent

    81-subway

    70-cell

    30-cable (split three ways)

    250- food

35- electric (also split three ways)

comes to $1,616 a month on expenses and that does not include any of the fun stuff, bars shopping...etc. god I have to get out of this city.

Unless you are making over say...85K its almost impossible to save decent $ money here. I hope this is helpful!!

  4. Monthly Expenses: (based on my expenses)

Rent (for 1 bedroom apartment) - $1800 minimum

    Con-Ed - 100-150 (depends on the season)

    Water - 50

    Phone/CP - 60

    Wireless Internet/Verizon Broadband - 65

Food - 500 (you can cut on this if you buy groceries and not eat out a lot like me)

    Monthly Metrocard - 81

    Incidentals - 100

Laundry/Drycleaning - $2 per small load plus drying

    Entertainment - 250 ($12 - movie, $60-100 broadway show, $20 - average entrance fees to museums, attractions)

That's roughly 3000/month. You can cut your expenses.

You would always have something that you splurge on every month. Like shopping for shoes or clothes, etc. You have to figure that in also.

Like me, my own monthly expense is:

Dinner Cruise every month (Bateaux New York) - $150

  5. The last time I knew someone who moved to NYC they had a tiny apt efficiency and paid well over $1500 a month for that.

  6. For a small apartment in Harlem maybe 1500/wk but you also have to figure in the commuting expenses, subway or bus $2/ride.  Then there is food which is also quite expensive...
